Photography - Digital Camera Verses 35mm Conventional Camera

Ever since I can remember I have always had a great interest and fascination for cameras and photography. With the advent of the DSLR digital camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex) replacing the old 35mm SLR camera (Single Lens Reflex) this interest became even more focussed, and with good reason. This means taking great pictures is simple and easy for absolutely anyone who can hold and point a camera.

This means that the age of modern technology really has arrived for photography and photographers the implications of this means there is virtually no restrictions on everyone being able to capture and take stunningly beautiful pictures.

The door is now well and truly open to a whole new world of photography. It means that you can buy a DSLR digital camera based on the SLR variety for only a few hundred dollars which would come equipped with an eight gigabyte memory card a battery and charger, instead of masses of expensive films and boxes of costly batteries.

You can now go take anything up to 1,942 (based on an 8 gigabyte memory card being used) pictures and instead of having to pay high costs to get them developed view them on the 2.7inch LCD screen located on the back of the camera keeping the ones you like and instantly delete those that you did not.

You simply take the memory card out of the camera and place it into your desktop computer and hey-presto you will be viewing the very pictures that you had only just taken. You can then edit, print off, upload to a website or even save to a memory stick to share or show to others.

Who Said Technology Was A Bad Thing...

Gone are the days of buying a 36 exposure film opening up the back of the camera, pulling the film across the back and trying to make sure it lined up with the running teeth before shutting the back and winding the film on until it had reached the first exposure segment, taking the picture and keeping your fingers crossed that you had got everything right and the shot had come out as planned.

Once all 36 exposures had been taken you would then have to wind the film back or on later models that had auto-rewind, press a button.

Carefully remove the film in low light conditions so as not to expose the film to excessive light that could spoil the film. Then take the film to the photography shop for development, which could take anything from a few days to a week or longer, depending.

This all took what seemed like a lifetime and not mentioning the inordinate amount of costs that could be involved. On top of that could have been extra prints or even enlargements. Photography used to be a very expensive hobby indeed.

So not only is the modern DSLR digital camera version of photography much less complex, but more importantly, once you have the basic equipment the actual costs are virtually nil.
